Für die Brauereibesitzerin Lady Helen Port Huntley (Isabella Rossellini) sind dies natürlich keine guten Zeiten um erfolgreich Bier zu verkaufen. Aus allen Gegenden der Welt eilen die Teilnehmer herbei um am Wettbewerb teilzunehmen und das Preisgeld von 25 000 Dollar zu gewinnen. Unter den Teilnehmer ist auch der wenig erfolgreiche Broadwayproduzent Chester Kent (Mark McKinney) und der serbische Cellist Gravillo (Ross McMillan). Und die beiden verbindet deutlich mehr als nur der Musikwettbewerb miteinander.
